In three years—
At twenty-five—
My brain will stop developing.
Which means
I do not know yet
Who I will be
When I die.

The body regenerates cells
Every six years
Every cell in you
Renewed:
Every six years
Entirely fresh flesh.
Untrue: but
A nice white lie
That justifies
Who you and I will be
When we die.

The butterfly recalls
Time prior to the cocoon.
But the caterpillar
Does not know
What it could’ve been
If it
Dies.
